So far it's performed better than the other Black Opiums, as those by the 30 minute mark were already skin scents, even when spraying a lot. YSL Black Opium Neon EDP adds a neon-like radiance to the signature Black Opium with this luscious dragon fruit. I was gifted my bottle of Neon from a friend who received it as a birthday present but didn’t like it. On my skin the orange blossom really comes out and combined with the jasmine, it gives this a very clean scent. There were moments that the whiffs I got felt remarkably similar to Pièce Unique by Maison Grès, which happens to be one of my favourite fragrances.

and maybe ‘cause of Zoe Kravitz, who can make anything appealing enough for me to purchase just by holding it up in a photo.

They do smell quite different overall, but the whiffs I get do seem quite similar at times, I’m fairly certain it’s the mandarin coming through, combined with the peppery note. Its iconic round window gets lit by a luminous fuchsia juice whom intensity seems to break out on each side. The signature round window on the bottle remains, revealing a bold neon pink for that extra Yves Saint Laurent fusing touch.

It’s quite a lot more fresh than an orange blossom essential oil type of scent, which is more heady and intoxicating, rather than dancing around you all fresh and bright.On my skin it can start to lean towards an almost anise like scent, which usually would put me off but I don't seem to mind it as much here in combination with the other notes as it works quite well all together.

Like in couture tailoring, the signature Black Opium bottle is re-visited and given a new silhouette with the contemporary woman in mind.

I absolutely love this perfume, but because I find it so easy to wear, it’s not a date perfume - to me, it’s a “throw on when you need something safe that makes you smile” kind of perfume. Lucky for me, I didn’t have to scrub it off, because it changes to a fairly boring approximation of vanilla after about 15 minutes. Imagine drinking a a lightly sweetened iced coffee with milk, while eating a very sweet pitaya bowl.

The opening was too perfumey and generic for me but this quickly settled into such a beautiful drydown. The Black Opium coffee signature is emboldened and its sculptural bottle re-mastered with a fluorescent twist, for that extra YSL touch. The base heralds back to that original YSL Black Opium EDP signature with Coffee, Vanilla and Cedarwood. For this version of YSL's iconic Black Opium perfume YSL have used an Orange Blossom and Flower accord that feels and glistens on the skin like the olfactory sensation of walking through an Italian garden.Many vanilla fragrances are very cloudy and sickening, but this perfume is clear and distinct smelling. As it dries down that famous YSL coffee-vanilla accord intensifies on my skin, but complimenting the orange blossom.
