In the past, Sally had produced the highly acclaimed Flower Shop books, telling the visual story of the Ted Martin florists in Wiltshire; she had owned a market research company and still runs Plooms, selling beautiful fountain pens in a dazzling rainbow of colours. This is a story that offers something quite different. It is about a very quiet woman who seems to be on the outskirts of society, but has more power than she realises. I enjoyed reading her monologue of the dog she walks and appreciated seeing Janice’s lioness emerging as she finds her voice. For instance, I’m not sure I could have tolerated Janice’s husband as much as she had! Another key theme in The Keeper Of Stories is friendship. As Max and Emilia travel through Deltora, they form strong bonds with the people they meet along the way and rely on each other for emotional support. This reinforces the importance of friendship as a source of strength and comfort in difficult times. Janice is a quite woman who would not stand out in a crowd. Not because she's unimportant but because that's the way she wants to be ,she wants to fade into the shadows and not bring attention to herself. Janice is a cleaner, a cleaner who visits lots of houses cleaning and collecting their stories. She now has a whole library of stories inside her head tore tell.

The main character, Janice (the cleaner), is the Keeper of Stories. She loves hearing everyone else’s stories but doesn’t really feel she has one herself, Janice truly doesn’t realize her own worth and as the book progresses you will find yourself wanting to befriend Janice. I listen to the quiet voices.” Janice stops and looks at him. “What do you mean?” “I figured out long ago that if I listen to the few people who shout at me, I am making them more important than they are. What they say will stay with me, upset me, and those loud voices will go on and on, even when the shouting has stopped. So instead I listen very carefully for the quiet voices - which is most people. The people who teach a perfect lesson with nobody knowing.” This is a wonderful story and beautifully written, It’s an extremely easy read and one that you will not want to put down.
