The smokiness becomes more pronounced and the whole whisky becomes more complex after being left for a month or two. While many distilleries create either peated or unpeated whiskies, Jura 10 marries together the best of both for a truly unique Island Single Malt that is subtly smoky with a sweet Sherry cask finish. It’s like when you have a nice dry rub on ribs, a little sugary almost like brown sugar but then a little bit of spice. Part of the new core range of whiskies launched by Isle of Jura in early 2018, this 10 year old expression takes the place of Jura Origin.

It is warm in colour with aromas of fruit, cracked pepper and dark chocolate and flavours of nectarines, ginger and freshly ground coffee. Once again, it’s simple stuff, so simple that it’s missing some elements that were present on the nose and without anything new taking up the gap. You got (in this 2014 review) many smoky scents, the likes of leather and bogfire, along with pine needle, resin and even brine. I also have a fairly large number of unopened bottles and I really need to start actually drinking my whisky rather than hoarding it!Nose: Others have commented on a strange nose; I agree it is distinct and a little pungent, but not that it is bad (or like tequila).

I stuck some Jura in a decanter (it's a nice colour for a decanter and, as I said above, I'm not worried about giving it away) and left some in the bottle. It’s a simple, but well-rounded and balanced scent, and very much in tune with what one might imagine for an Islands single malt.
